How many types of infrared detector can be divided into?

Infrared Detector is the heart of thermal camera devices. Its main feature is to convert infrared radiation into electrical signal. Infrared detector can be divided into cooled and uncooled detectors.

Cooled detector: Based on photovoltaic detector and photon detection, integrated cryogenic cooler is used to cool down the detector. Its purpose is to make the thermal noise signal lower than the imaging signal. Cooled detectors are commonly used in military applications (e.g., Space equipment, Warships, etc.).

  • Advantages: High sensitivity, high accuracy, long detection distance, fast response time, and stable performance.
  • Disadvantages: Large power consumption, high-cost, low flexibility.

Uncooled detector: Based on microbolometer & thermal detection, uncooled detector mainly includes polysilicon and vanadium oxide, which is usually used in civilian field (e.g., Circuit inspection, equipment maintenance, etc.)

  • Advantages: Low power consumption, low-cost, high flexibility.
  • Disadvantages: Low sensitivity, slow response time, short detection distance.

What is dead pixel?

Dead pixel indicates the bright or dark flecks in infrared images that do not change with the target, which caused by high or low response rate of single detector element to infrared radiation, it also called as ineffective pixel.

What is ghost?

Ghost indicates the bright or dark lines in infrared images that do not change with the target, which caused by the non-uniform response rate of detector element to infrared radiation.

What is thermal time constant?

Thermal time constant can be comprehended as the time required by thermal cameras to generate a image with complete and accuracy temperature data. The smaller the thermal time constant, the faster the speed of photo generation, and the faster and moving objects can be captured.

What is non-uniformity correction?

Due to the limits of infrared detector manufacturing process, each detection element on infrared detector has different response rate to infrared radiation, ghost appears on the images, which affects imaging quality. Non-uniformity correction function can effectively prevent the appearance of ghost, and restore the authenticity of the images.

What is NETD?

NETD (Noise Equivalent Temperature Difference) indicates that the smallest temperature difference can be detected by infrared detector, which is one of the most important parameters to measure performance of infrared detector/sensor. NETD is typically being expressed in milli-Kelvin (mK). The lower the NETD, the better the imaging quality.

What is MRTD?

MRTD (Minimum Resolvable Temperature Difference) is the key parameter to comprehensively evaluate the ability of NETD and IFOV in the field of thermal imaging. At a given IFOV value, when observers can just distinguish 4 bands (50% of probability), the temperature difference between the target and background called MRTD. The smaller the MRTD, the better the performance of infrared thermal imagers.

What is imaging resolution?

Size of imaging resolution reflects arrangement distribution and total number of detection element on focal plane of detector. The higher the imaging resolution, the clearer the imaging.

What is pixel size?

Pixel size also known as detection element, it is the smallest unit used by sensor to scan objects, each pixel size indicates a temperature acquisition unit. The smaller the pixel size, the better the imaging quality.

What is frame rate?

Frame rate is the frequency at which bitmap image consecutively appear in frame on the display screen of the device.

What is lens focal length?

Focal length of lens is the distance from the center of the lens to its focus, usually denoted in F. Its unit is usually expressed in millimeter. The larger the distance, the farther the clear image can be taken.

What is measurement accuracy?

Measurement accuracy indicates the difference between the measured temperature and actual temperature. The smaller the value, the better the performance of infrared thermal imager.

What is IFOV?

IFOV also called as spatial resolution. It indicates the actual size of the corresponding objects for each pixel, expressed in radian. The smaller the IFOV, the higher the imaging resolution.

What is FOV?

In the case of optical devices, set optical instrument’s lens as vertex, the angle formed by two edges of the maximum range that the image of the measured objects can pass through called FOV (Filed of view). With the same resolution, the larger the FOV, the wider the range of observed objects, but more blurred the images.

What is temperature compensation technology? And what is its use?

Temperature compensation technology is used to weaken or eliminate the measurement error caused by ambient temperature changes. Its principle is calculating the changes of sensor’s temperature emissivity, ambient temperature, etc. values to correct the measurement data.

What is thermal imaging technology?

Technology that converting object surface’s temperature distribution into a visible image through the special electronic equipment and displaying the temperature distribution in different colors called thermal imaging technology.

What is the principle of thermal imaging

All objects above absolute zero (-273℃) emit infrared radiation. Find and recognize targets by using infrared radiation images formed by radiation differences between objects.

What components does infrared thermal imager consist of?

Infrared thermal imagers are usually composed of infrared detector/refrigerator unit, infrared optical lens, optical unit, focusing/magnifying unit, internal non-uniformity correction unit, imaging circuit unit, etc.

What is infrared thermal cameras?

Infrared thermal cameras are one of the devices that support to collect infrared radiation (heat energy) and convert them into a visual image with temperature data.

What are the use of the certifications?

To ensure products can be circulated normally in market, products must meet the local laws and regulations before sale, it means products need to pass the certification test. Products cannot be sold in market without certificates.

How can I know what certificates does my product own?

Certificates marking will be print on side surface of product body, you can check on it for details.

What is UL certification?

UL certificate is produced by the most authoritative safety accrediting agency “Underwriter Laboratories Inc.” in US. It detects the products in a scient testing way to confirm whether the products can meet the safety standard required by the market. Service items provided by UL including “Listed”, “Recognized”, and “Classification”, EMC characteristic is excluded in the certification range of UL. UL certification is non-mandator in US. In summary, UL certification is an important indicator of product safety and a major consideration in product selection.

What is RoHS certification?

RoHS is an instruction that limits to use some harmful materials for electrical and electronic equipment. Issuing RoHS instruction is aimed to coordinate WEEE instruction, advocate environment protection and energy saving, prevent waste generation, also reduce resource wasting for waste recycling, reuse, and remanufacturing.

What is RoHS certification?

What is UKCA certification?

UKCA (UK Conformity Assessed) is a product conformity assessment system created in UK local. From January, 1st, 2021 on, all newly manufactured products applicable to UKCA instruction are required to meet the standard test stipulated by UK regulations. Products can only be circulated in UK market after obtained UKCA certificates.

Note: Products manufactured before 2021 year can still be sold in UK market by CE certificates.

What is CE certification?

CE certification is a basic safety requirement to limit the product that do not endanger the safety of human, animal, and goods, rather than general quality requirement. CE marking is a mandatory certification marking. All products circulated on EU market must be print CE marking to indicate that the products have been evaluated before launching to market, and meet the basic legal requirements for sales. CE marking can be viewed on product package or body.

How to maintain battery?

①Keep away from pyrogen and combustion source;

②Keep away from sunshine;

③Do not dismantle or squeeze the battery pack;

④Take out the battery pack to prevent battery fluid leakage to damage thermal imager when thermal imager is idle for a long term;

⑤Use a regular and in line with the charging specifications of the power adapter for charging;

⑥Keep the battery pack clean and dry;

⑦Clean battery connection interface via a soft brush or dry cotton swab.

How to clean LCD screen?

Using rubber suction bulb to clean the dust covers on the surface of LCD screen first. If there is stubborn dust or vapor on it, please slightly clean it via the professional cleaning wiping cloth or dry soft cloth.

Note: Do not use excessive force during cleaning to avoid damage to the screen.

How to clean lens?

The surface of the infrared thermal imaging lens is attached with a fine anti-reflective coating. Do not use too much force to damage the anti-reflective coating. If professional cleaning equipment is available, you can clean the lens surface particles via compressed air tank or dry nitrogen ion gun. Otherwise, soak the flannelette in lens cleaner containing alcohol, ethanol or vinyl. Before cleaning, remove the excess liquid from the cloth and gently wipe the lens surface in a circular motion.

How to clear body shell?

Material adopted by body shell of infrared thermal imager is silicon gel, it is recommended to clean with a cloth dipped in mild alkaline soapy water. Do not clean with corrosive liquid such as abradant, isopropanol, and dissolvent.

Will my device be powered off when ambient temperature is too high/low?

Device will not be powered off automatically when its surrounding ambient temperature is too high/low. However, it might cause the device damaged, please store or use the device within the specified temperature range.

Why does my device be slow after I installed an SD card?

Rate level may vary from different SD cards. It is divided into 5 levels at present, including Class2/4/6/8/10. Class10 is the highest level, whose read and write speed is fastest. Speed of reading and writing data will be affected if using SD card with low rate level, which may cause lagging. It is recommended to use the original SD card, it has already passed the tests before launching, which can meet your daily use.

My device frequently lags, how can I make it smoother?

The methods as below can improve the fluency of the device:

①As the number of photos stored increase, storage space of the device will inevitably decrease. Please back up data termly, clear the unnecessary or duplicate photos to release storage space is effective to improve device fluency.

②Using the original or regular external memory card, or speed of reading and writing data will be affected.

③Keep system to the latest version. System upgrade improves system stability, and solve the compatibility problems on old version.

What should I do if my device is stuck during upgrade process?

It needs to take some time for system upgrade. Please wait 3 to 5 minutes to check whether upgrade process will be automatically finished or not. If long time no response on the device, forcibly shut down the device by long-pressing Power button or removing battery pack. After that, try to power on the device. If it can be powered on normally, please back up data first, then format SD card, and repeat the steps to system upgrade. If fail to upgrade system, please contact our technology personnel.

What can I do when my device is stuck and no any response?

Long-press Power button to forcibly shut down the device. After the screen goes black, long-press Power button to power on the device. If there is no any response when trying to forcibly shut down the device, and the battery type of the device is detachable, you can remove the battery pack to shut down the device.

What should I do if my device automatically reboot?

①Visit official website to check whether there is the latest firmware for your device. If yes, and firmware version is higher than the current version of your device, please upgrade your device to the latest version (contact us for upgrade details)

②Back up data, perform “Reset to factory”.

If the issue still exists, please contact us in time.

Why does my device power off automatically?

The reasons as below may cause the device power off automatically. Please eliminate one by one:

①The device cannot be powered on normally when the battery power is insufficient. Please charge your device for 20mins for a try;

②Auto Power off is activated. The device will power off automatically when there is no any action on it within the preset time. Go check whether Auto power off is activated in Menu>Settings>Auto power off.

If the issue still exists, please back up the data first, then perform Factory Reset in Menu>Settings>Factory Reset. If the issue still cannot be solved, please contact us timely.

What should I do if my device cannot be powered on?

Device may fail to be powered on due to the following factors:

①Battery power is insufficient. Charge the device via the regular USB cable and adapter for 20 mins. Long press Power key to turn on the device for a try (If the battery pack is dismountable, click battery key to check the remaining power);

②Ambient temperature is too low. If ambient temperature is too low, Li-ion battery activity will be reduced, which may cause the device not work normally. Please store the device in a place with suitable operating temperature. Use the device until its temperature recover to normal.

Monitor keeps shaking, how can I make it stable?

Keep your hands and device stable during shooting process. Most of our devices have bracket screw hole design, support to be fixed via tripod mount.

How to eliminate the ghosting during shooting?

Don’t worry, here are some methods that may help you:

①If the device has not been used for a long time, please wait for 15 to 20 minutes after it is on to ensure the normal use of the device.

②If the object releases heat in a relative fixed position for a long while, heat in its position might still be remained after the objects gone, and ghosting will be seen through infrared thermal imagers. Please be noted that it is a normal phenomenon. You can verify it through changing another time or scene to take photos.

③Reboot the device to check whether ghosting issues can be optimized or not.

④Upgrade system version to the latest.

⑤Calibrating the device manually. Calibration method may vary from different models, please contact our technology personnel for more details.

Calibrating character will appear on device screen when environment factors (such as Emissivity, Focus distance, etc.) changes during shooting process. Its function is to improve measurement accuracy and reduce measurement errors by calibrating camera parameters automatically.

Why UTi260B’s LED light cannot be turned on when pressing LED button?

Long-press LED Light button for 3 seconds to turn on/off LED light. Once temperature alarm is enabled, LED light will flicker as reminder when the measured temperature exceeds the preset alarm value.

Note: Forbid to aim at eyes to avoid injury when LED light is on.

Which type of connection interface does UTi260B equip with?

UTi260B equipped with Type-C connection port. Details of its location and connectivity operation can be found from User Manual.

Does UTi260B support screen projection? How to use it?

UTi260B supports screen projection. Please refer to the steps below to enjoy it.

Download projection app “UTi-Live Screen” from our official website

Decompress the downloaded file, then install it;

Connect UTi260B to PC via original USB cable;

Set “USB camera” in Settings>USB mode;

Open UTi-Live Screen app, and UTi260B’s screen will be projected to PC automatically.

Note: Do not unplug USB cable during projection. Close projection app before unplugging USB cable after use.

How to adjust the fusion ratio on UTi260B?

After Image display mode switched to “Fusion” or “PIP”, tap “Left/Right” button to adjust fusion ratio by 25%.

Note: Fusion ratio cannot be controllable in Thermal and Digital mode.

How many measurement points can be added on UTi260B?

Except Center spot, at most 3 temperature point can be added optionally.

Operating steps: Tap “SET” button to call out Tool Bar> select “Point Measurement” to add temperature point.

Does UTi260B support ROI?

UTi260B supports ROI. You can touch “SET” button to call out Tool bar> select “Measurement” to enable/disable it.

Note: After ROI is enabled, Center spot temperature and auto tracking for Hi/Lo temperature function will be disabled automatically.

Does UTi260B support auto tracking for Hi/Lo temperature?

UTi260B supports Auto tracking for Hi/Lo temperature. You can touch “SET” button to call out Tool Bar> select “Measurement” to enable/disable “HiLo spot” (Enabled default).

Does UTi260B support to display the measurement data in Fahrenheit unit?

Sure. UTi260B has Celsius and Fahrenheit temperature unit, which can be switched in Settings>Temperature Unit.

Does Temperature compensation function available on UTi260B?

Temperature compensation is unavailable on UTi260B. However, we still can manually adjust parameters of “Ambient temperature” and “Measurement distance” to realize temperature compensation. Ambient temperature and Measurement distance can be adjusted in Settings>Measurements.

How to calibrate temperature on UTi260B?

Press “Return” button slightly on Home screen to calibrate measurement temperature is helpful for improving stability of measurement.

What lens/elements does UTi260B consist of?

UTi260B is equipped with a Digital Lens (640×480 pixels), an Infrared Lens (256×192 pixels) and Dual LED Light.
